Floodplain

An area of land adjacent to a body of water (such as a river) that receives overflow. According to FEMA, a floodplain is “any land area susceptible to being inundated by flood waters from any source.” Buyers looking to buy a new home are prudent to seek information that the home does not lie in a floodplain.
